What we provide

Independent expert evidence and operational analysis for shipping disputes.

Six areas of maritime-security and operational expertise, applied to the questions that arise when a decision, a voyage or a vessel becomes a matter of dispute. Trident provides expert and technical opinion, not legal advice.

01

Expert Witness

Independent expert opinion for maritime and charterparty disputes, including written reports, joint statements, conferences with counsel and oral evidence.

02

War Risk & Real Danger

Evidence-led assessment of whether a particular vessel or voyage was exposed to war risks at the relevant time, based on the information reasonably available then.

03

Charterparty Disputes

Operational evidence concerning voyage orders, routeing, port calls, deviations, delays, safe-port issues and decisions made in high-risk environments.

04

Vessel-Specific Evidence

Reconstruction of vessel movements, affiliations, trading history, targeting exposure, AIS behaviour and the threat environment surrounding the voyage.

05

Port & Voyage Conditions

Historical assessment of port status, terminal operations, navigational restrictions, attacks, military activity and access conditions at the material date.

06

Maritime Intelligence & Analysis

Evidence drawn from AIS, incident records, contemporary intelligence, official reporting and quantitative analysis rather than retrospective assumptions.

From intelligence to evidence

The question in a maritime dispute is rarely whether a region was dangerous in general. It is what risk this vessel faced, on this voyage, at this location, at the relevant time.

Answering it means reconstructing the operating picture as it stood at the material date, from the evidence that was actually available then.

Trident assembles that picture from the vessel's own record and the environment around it — and reasons from it to the exposure of the specific voyage, rather than from the general reputation of the area.

What we reconstruct

The evidence behind the opinion.

Drawn together into a defensible account of the risk to the particular vessel — never a later, cleaner picture substituted for the contemporary one.

  • Vessel movements and voyage reconstruction.
  • AIS behaviour and anomalies.
  • Threat activity across the relevant area and period.
  • Targeting patterns and the vessel's relevance to them.
  • Vessel affiliation, and how it may have been perceived.
  • Ownership, management and trading history.
  • Port, berth and terminal conditions at the material date.
  • Contemporary government and military warnings.
  • Insurance-market indicators, including war-risk pricing.
  • Incident databases and the observed casualty record.
  • The information reasonably available at the material date — not hindsight.

Lawyers establish the legal test. Trident establishes the operational evidence needed to address it.

Trident provides independent expert and technical opinion and operational analysis. It does not construe the contract, determine liability, or decide whether a legal test is ultimately satisfied — those questions are reserved for the court or tribunal.
